Starbucks Guangdong Installation
Shenzhen, China
While working for Starbucks China, I was tasked by the Store Design team to dream up an installation for a new store in Shenzhen, China that honors the Guangdong Province. I developed several pieces to be woven into the store’s layout.
The hero piece depicts a gorge in Guangdong Province using inspiration from the Johannes Nieuhof’s 'An Embassy from the East-India Company of the United Provinces, to the Grand Tartar Cham Emperor of China’ etching of Mountaines of Song-Won-Hab, published in 1669. Color inspiration drawn drawn from store design development; golden sunset hues glimmering over deep oceanic blues.

The triptych hanging panels incorporate inspiration from the 3 main coffee-growing regions of the world and their regional growing conditions that result in unique flavor characteristics.
Coffees grown in the Asia Pacific region are bold, full-bodied and syrupy smooth with herbal earthy flavors. In this piece you’ll find inspiration from the rolling terraces of Yunnan, sprinkling of dried herbs, and abundant coffee plants.
Latin American coffees set themselves apart with flavors of nuts, cocoa, and soft spice. We celebrate Guatemalan coffees for their unique flavors and we celebrate the geographically unique flora and fauna, and high density of volcanoes. Volcanoes create iron-rich soil to produce the unique coffees of Guatemala. In this panel you’ll note inspiration from volcanoes, nuts, flowers, and coffee plants.
Africa, the birthplace of coffee, is a region known for their flavors of citrus, berry, and spice with floral aromas. In this panel you’ll note inspiration of blooming citrus fruits, many florals, and coffee plants.
